Introduction

Internet of Things (IoT) are swiftly entering every area of our lives. Your new radio, your vacuum-robot, your new watch? Probably all could be classified as IoT. While the ease of having them connected to the internet is convenient and appealing, the rise of IoT is not without concerns when one thinks about cybersecurity.

As they enter our homes, hospitals and offices the IoT offer at the same time a new entry point for malicious attempts. When thinking about cybersecurity, the more you have internet facing points such as applications, websites, servers, the more you are exposed. I like to see it as an Empire. The more your Empire is widespread with small remote towns on its edges, the tougher it gets to monitor and safeguard the Empire. This is as opposed to a more concentrated Empire which is easier to protect. The same applies to cybersecurity.

Cybersecurity is like safeguarding an Empire: the more it is widespread the more exposed you are.
